You can't modify events added from your Phone because the app will mark you as a guest, and not owner of the event. You have two solutions: 1) Delete and re-create it; or 2) Open the webapp and un-guest yourself.
Ok, I agree that this would be annoying. I never experienced this behaviour myself, though. I.e. never ever, since 2.2.something until Jelly Bean. So it might have something to do with the special Google Calendar you use. ;-)
It works okay with the main calendar, but the bug show up on every secondary calendar. And, the "main" calendar is the one having your name in it (I had to re-create a new one to get it back). But this still doesn't fix the problem for the secondary calendars.
